More than 800 runners of 20 nationalities and 100 clubs have completed the 10k Benidorm test today, which started at 10.00 am from Plaza de la Hispanidad and which has crossed the avenue of the Mediterranean, the first line of the beach of Lift and some streets of the Corner of Loix before reaching the Square of SSMM Kings of Spain, where the goal has been installed. The Councilor for Social Welfare, Angela Llorca, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Arturo Cabrillo, has been in charge of giving the kick-off of the event, which as usual has had a very high participation of foreign athletes.
A little less than 33 minutes after the start of the race, the winner of the race, Youssef Ahatach, of Club Dianium, crossed the finish line; followed closely by Héctor Varona, athlete of Grupo Alcaraz, and Juan Antonio Fernández, of Benidorm Athletics Club. In the women’s category, the first classified was the runner of the Athletics Club Llebeig Xàbia Mª Isabel Ferrer; while the second place went to the local athlete Sonia Tirado, and the third to Nicola Stevenson, from the Poplar Running Club. In this way, two athletes from Benidorm have managed to get on the podium in the men’s and women’s categories.
Note the special podium for the most numerous clubs in first position Lytchett Manor Stridders with more than 25 participants, followed by Bognor Registone Zone runners with more than 20 participants and in third position Black Valley Runner with more than 20 participants.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Sports; the mayor of Social Welfare; the regidor of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles; and the socialist Bernardo Mira have been responsible for delivering the trophies in the different categories, along with the organizer of the event, José Brotons, and representatives of the Benidorm Athletics Club.
